Scoping Study on Security Implications of Climate Change in the OSCE Region
Client: The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Project Partners: Chatham House, Cimera Duration: 11.2009 – 02.2010 Die Organisation für Sicherheit und Zusammenarbeit in Europa (OSZE) spielt eine aktive Rolle bei der Bearbeitung sicherheitsrelevanter Herausforderungen des Klimawandels. Adelphi erstellt hierfür im Auftrag der OSZE die „Studie zu sicherheitspolitischen Implikationen des Klimawandels im OSZE-Raum“. Die Studie liefert dafür eine umfassende Wissensgrundlage. Ziel der Studie ist es, Empfehlungen für die OSZE zu entwickeln, wie sie Sicherheitsrisiken des Klimawandels auf der politischen und operativen Ebene begegnen kann. Die Studie gibt einen Überblick über den aktuellen Forschungsstand zu Klimawandel und Sicherheitsrisiken und fasst die wichtigsten Klimawandeltrends in der Arktis, in Zentralasien und dem Südkaukasus, Ost- und Südosteuropa sowie dem südlichen Mittelmeerraum zusammen. Darüber hinaus benennt sie relevante Akteure, Interessengruppen und Politikansätze auf dem globalen, regionalen und lokalen Level. Die Ergebnisse der Studie im Februar 2010 werden auf einem Workshop der OSZE zu Klimawandel und Sicherheit vor Experten und Vertretern der OSZE-Mitgliedsstaaten vorgestellt. Der Workshop bildet den Auftakt für ein mehrjähriges Programm der OSZE zu Klimawandel und Sicherheit. Analysis of the market for voluntary carbon offsets in Germany
Client: German Federal Environment Agency/German Emissions Trading Authority (DEHSt) Project Partners: sustainable AG Duration: 09.2009 – 06.2010 In recent years, voluntary carbon offsets have gained importance. People increasingly wish to purchase carbon offsets to offset the amount of emissions they have produced. Likewise, companies wish to turn certain products - or even their entire business - into climate neutral areas by purchasing offsets. Subsequently, the number of suppliers of carbon offsets and the number of climate neutral products offered in Germany has risen rapidly. However, registration procedures or obligatory standards for voluntary carbon offsets are not in place. more |

Meta-Analysis - Sustainable Development Strategies in Politics and Economics
Client: Federal Ministry of Education and Research Project Partners: FFU Berlin, IÖW Berlin Duration: 09.2008-08.2010 The aim of the project is to find out how sustainable innovations are being triggered through the interaction of different actors from governments and businesses as well as their policies and strategies. Hence, the project will focus on the interface between (sub)-national strategies for sustainable development and innovation policies for both regional authorities and businesses. Furthermore, the interaction between governmental sustainability policies and entrepreneurial sustainability strategies will be researched. more |
Twin2Go-Coordinating Twinning partnerships towards more adaptive Governance in river basins
Client: European Commission, DG Research, FP7 Project Partners: University of Osnabrück, VITUKI, Soresma, DHI, Friedrich-Schiller-Universitat Jena, Chiang Mai University, EcoPolicy Duration: 06.2009 - 05.2011 Twin2Go reviews, consolidates, and synthesises research on integrated water resources management in basins around the world. The aim is to draw policy relevant research results on issues around ‘adaptive water governance in the context of climate change’ and to make them transferable to other basins. Twin2Go will further promote up-take of research results in practice and political decision making through effective dialogue with relevant target groups. more |

IEeWASTE – Indo European e-Waste Initiative
Client: European Commission (Asia Pro Eco II Programme) Project Partners: GTZ ASEM, Indian Manufacturers’ Association for Information Technology, India, AREC Austria Recycling Duration: 01.2007 – 12.2009 The e-waste sector in India faces dual challenges of it’s difficulties in coping with the sheer quantity of e-waste (locally generated or imported) and the lack of adequate means or knowledge of handling certain recycling processes. The lack of regulation and/or lax enforcement in the recycling and disposal sector compounds the problem further. more |
Energy Campaign for the Hotel and Restaurant Industry
Client: Bundesumweltministerium, Umweltbundesamt, DEHOGA As a result of the project “tourism and climate” that Adelphi Research conducted for the Federal Environmental Agency an Energy Campaign was started in March 2006. The campaign is based on a voluntary agreement for climate protection between the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and the German Association of Hotels and Restaurants (DEHOGA). Objectives of the campaign are to propagate energy savings in the hotel and restaurant industry and to assist participating establishments during practice.
